A New Study Finds BPD Precursors in Adolescents

Most people know that it is hard for people under the age of 25 to get diagnosed with BPD, or indeed any other mental health disorder mostly due to the adolescent mind. But a new study has found signs that there may be a way to find out if an adolescent is going to develop BPD and other mental health conditions in the future. If you think that sounds amazing, just wait until you read about how they are being tested!

This study made by Psychologist Dr Carla Sharp of the University of Houston was done using a new assessment tool called Movies for the Assessment of Cognition (MASC). Yes, it really is done by the subjects watching different scenes from various movies and then they make multiple choice answers based on those clips. To put things as simple as I can some of them showed poor emotional regulation which was because they had misinterpreted the clips wrongly which as some of you might know is a classic symptom of BPD.

While there is no way to know for sure that the Adolescents have BPD until they are older and can be fully diagnosed, it did show that there are clear signs that could well lead to that subject having BPD in the future, or at the very least being more susceptible to developing it. It’s an interesting study for sure and you can read more about it here.
